INTERNATIONAL TABLING UPDATE

Dear Fellow Tabler,

The biggest Event of the Year is nearing! Of what we hear and what we see, we expect a lot of Tablers coming over to Alkmaar, The Netherlands in August. This is the closest it will be from RTBI without us hoisting it. The Tabler from Netherlands will not disappoint us. As this first RTI WM-Newsflash will show you, they have fantastic parties, beautiful tours, and a great hotel in which we created our own RTI Bar.
As, is always the case, during the RTI event, a Nations Night is held on the Friday, and to celebrate our current National. President., the theme for the RTBI participants will be Wales n' all things Welsh!!
I am also getting Polo Shirt Made for the event. These collectors Items will also be used to promote our AGM in Harrogate. They will also be personalized with your Name and Table. Please email if you would like one with your size. Still working out the excellent cost.
As your IRO I am also promoting other international events that RTBI Tabler will be attending in numbers. So if you would like to join in the Fellowship & Fun let me know and book in.
RTI World Meeting 2009 13-16 August 2009 Alkmaar - The Netherlands. http://www.rti2009.com Already good number booking in from RTBI.
Thereafter the emphasis turns to the European sub regional meetings (Nordic Tablers Meeting in NTM 2009 -Tallinn ( ESTONIA)22-25th Oct http://www.ntm2009.ee/ Great interest in this one think should have 20-30 RTBI Tablers at this event.

Central Tabler’s Meeting at Liege in Belgium 26-28thst Feb. Should be interesting if they can make it as special as the one we have just hosted in London. http://www.ctm2010.com/
I also intend in going to ARTSA (Southern Africa)
There are a large number of euro and world number meeting, if your club is not already involved in and your number fits you can go to.

Baby Marshall (Handstand Appeal)

St Ives Round Table 531 & Camborne Round Table 771 will soon be able to announce a brilliant event that will help Baby Marshall (Handstand Appeal) a little boy who lost both his hands and both legs through meningitis. The event will be something that everyone can get involded in. So watch this space!!!!!!!

Marshall story is below.

Marshall celebrated his first birthday on 22 December. On Boxing Day, Marshall was rushed into hospital following an attack of Meningococcal Meningitis. Meningitis is a brutal and unforgiving disease. While Marshall has escaped brain damage he has had to have both his hands and both his legs amputated. Marshall now faces a lifetime of rehabilitation while adapting to the use of prosthetic limbs. Because he is so young Marshall will continually require new prosthetic limbs as he grows. To put this in perspective, Marshall will require at least one pair of hands, at least once a year, every year until he is 16. A pair of hands costs £22K. A firm cost for his legs has yet to be established but it will be to a similar order of magnitude.

Marshall celebrated his first birthday on 22 December. He and his family enjoyed a lovely Christmas Day. “Marshall wore a little Santa Suit”, said his Mum, Stephanie, “He looked so sweet.” When Marshall woke up on Boxing Day morning, Stephanie noticed a tiny rash on his forehead. Worried that it was something serious, Stephanie and Moss, Marshall’s Dad, immediately bundled him into the car and drove to Treliske Hospital in Truro. At Hospital Marshall became more listless and was developing a rash all over his body. The medical staff immediately rushed him into intensive care. Doctors confirmed Stephanie and Moss’s worst fear - he had indeed suffered an attack of Meningitis. Doctors fought for over four hours to save Marshall’s life. His vital organs failed on two occasions. Said Dr Thys De Beer, Head of Intensive Care at Treliske Hospital, “Marshall is the sickest child I have ever seen. His survival is almost miraculous.” Marshall was transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital which has one of the UK’s leading specialist units in treating Meningitis in very young children. Marshall’s vital organs failed again and, once more, medical staff battled for hours to save him. Over the next few weeks tests confirmed that Marshall had escaped brain damage and that his sight and hearing had not been impaired, however, Doctors had to tell Stephanie and Moss that Marshall would have to lose his hands and legs, due to the terrible damage caused by the septicaemia which often accompanies Meningitis. Marshall’s hands and legs were amputated on 27 January. Said Stephanie, “We knew it had to be done, otherwise Marshall would not survive, but on the day of the operation Moss and I were just inconsolable. It seemed so unfair.” Marshall was allowed home in time for Easter. His Mum and Dad had maintained a vigil by his bedside throughout his ordeal. “We were so glad to be allowed to go home at last”, said Moss, “while the medical staff have been marvellous, being in hospital for three months had taken its toll.”

I along with the Round Tables of St Ives and Camborne will need all the help of the community to raise as much as we can for this little boy.

Pasty Meeting of the New Table Year.

Well its the new table year and with tradition the first meeting is always a 'Pasty meeting'.
So this year each tabler and our guests had to make their own PASTY.
At the start of the evening everyone met in the bar of fellow tabler Richard's restaurant thinking it was going to be a meeting, pasty and pint but little did they know what was in store.
90 mintues later or so we had completed making our pasties, sunk a few pints and were tucking into them, boy didn't they taste wonderful.

Everyone had a great time and some even impressed their partners that they could COOK!!!
The photos show the tablers having a great time.

Next meet we are off to have a go at being Robin Hood and shoot a few arrows.

If you are in the area and would like to join St Ives Round Table please give us a call (01736 757006) or email us on round-table@hotmail.co.uk.
